A residence permit for temporary stay for the purpose of employment, work, or for self-employed individuals can be issued if the foreign national submits a work permit or any other necessary permit in accordance with the law, unless otherwise specified by a ratified international agreement. The permit is issued for a period corresponding to the validity of the work permit, but not exceeding one year, and it can be extended.
A work permit is a document based on which a domestic or foreign employer enters into an employment contract or work agreement with a foreign national or performs other work with the foreign national. The application for the issuance of a work permit is submitted by the foreign national to the diplomatic or consular representation of the Republic of North Macedonia.
