What Erasmus placement is and why it is important
The ERASMUS+ placement initiative facilitates student mobility, including undergraduates, postgraduates, and PhD candidates, enabling them to engage in internship opportunities across a spectrum of entities such as companies, organizations, universities, and research centers within European countries participating in the Program.
Undertaking a traineeship abroad presents a unique opportunity to significantly enhance your knowledge, skills, and competencies, all of which are highly sought after by employers. Notably, one out of every ten participants in Erasmus+ traineeships has successfully established their own enterprise, underscoring the program’s potential for fostering entrepreneurship. Application for these enriching experiences can be made through the international or Erasmus+ office of your respective higher education institution.
Important information
The student receives comprehensive information about the application procedure and associated deadlines via their university’s website. Updates regarding the selection process are also communicated through this channel. Notably, each student is entitled to submit a single application per academic year for participation in the Erasmus+ Internship Program at a chosen host or training institution.
The student bears the responsibility of identifying a suitable host institution, initiating negotiations pertaining to the duration of the internship, and finalizing essential details concerning travel arrangements and accommodation in the host country. This involves coordinating matters like visa issuance, securing specialized insurance coverage, and obtaining a residence permit.
Once the student has acquainted themselves with the company’s requirements under the guidance of their designated supervisor, they actively engage in fulfilling the assigned tasks, adhering to the prescribed guidelines and regulations throughout the internship duration.
Upon the culmination of the internship period, the participant is required to compile and submit a comprehensive report, encapsulating the key aspects and outcomes of the assigned project or responsibilities. This report serves as a testament to the skills acquired and experiences gained during the internship, contributing to the holistic learning and development objectives of the ERASMUS+ PLACEMENT program.
Erasmus+ facilitates traineeships abroad ranging from 2 to 12 months, allowing participants ample time to immerse themselves in a comprehensive learning experience. Additionally, students and recent graduates can opt for a blended mobility approach, combining a short physical stay abroad, typically lasting between 5 and 30 days, with a virtual period.
As a component of the Erasmus+ program, recent graduates are afforded the opportunity to participate in internships within the first year following their graduation. To be eligible for this initiative, graduates should apply during their final year of study and ensure that the internship is concluded within 12 months of their graduation.
How to find placement in Greece
The task of securing an internship lies with each individual student. Occasionally, the liaison offices or Erasmus offices of the sending universities can provide assistance to the student, drawing from the collective experiences of previous students.
ErasmusIntern.org forms a vital component of the STORY project, initiated by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN). ESN operates as a non-profit international student organization, dedicated to advocating for international students and fostering cultural comprehension and personal growth, guided by the principle of Students Helping Students. With over 13,000 members across various local sections throughout Europe, ESN operates on a voluntary basis in collaboration with Higher Education Institutions, serving approximately 180,000 students annually.
The STORY project has received funding from the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Commission. Its overarching objective involves enhancing the accessibility and caliber of international internships while promoting awareness of such opportunities for the youth demographic. To realize these ambitions, the project has undertaken comprehensive research, complemented by the development of this online platform, aimed at augmenting students’ prospects within the European job market.
ErasmusIntern.org functions as a centralized hub, allowing companies and organizations to post their internship positions and scout for prospective interns. Simultaneously, students aspiring to engage in international internships can create and manage their profiles, explore various internship opportunities, and submit their applications seamlessly through the platform.

Financing
Students/recent graduates who undertake internships through the Erasmus+ Program abroad receive a monthly grant. For students from Greek Higher Education Institutions moving to participating Programme Countries, the grant ranges from 670 to 570 euros, depending on the Country Group to which they are moving. In the case of Greece, the monthly amount is 620€.
It is important for students to understand that the financial grant aims to offset additional mobility expenses, including travel costs and potentially high living expenses in the host country. The financial support does not cover the entirety of the costs associated with the period of internship abroad.
The grant is disbursed in two installments:
- The beneficiary receives an advance payment equivalent to 80% of the grant amount before their departure to the foreign country or within 30 calendar days from the signing of the Grant Agreement by both parties or the start date of the mobility period, or upon receipt of the arrival confirmation from the beneficiary.
- The remaining 20% is paid to the beneficiary after their return, provided the internship period is deemed successful.
Prospective students should be aware that the host institution may propose additional remuneration for the internship, which is fully compatible with the monthly grant of the Erasmus+ program.
